Local Lavender Farms to Visit

lavender-barcelona.jpg

Provence is the lavender capital of the world, and seeing those miles and miles of purple flowers in bloom is a bucket-list experience for many. And yet, as the love of lavender has spread far beyond the Mediterranean, lavender farms have sprung up all over the world, including right here in our region, which gives you the chance to experience lavender in bloom (albeit at a smaller scale!) without ever having to get on a plane.

There are several lavender farms in the Northeast that can offer you the fragrance and beauty of lavender at its peak. Many farms are family operations and true labors of love. They offer pick-your-own options as well as lavender products and plants in their farm stores. Some get even more creative, making lavender ice cream, offering activities like yoga in the fields, camping, demonstrations and guided tours, and hosting special events.  If you’d like to treat yourself and stay within driving distance, check out this list, with links, to get you started.

This list is only a start! In our region there are many more, smaller lavender farms, and farms that don’t allow visitors, too. New farms are cropping up all the time (pun intended). We strongly recommend contacting any farm in advance to check on peak bloom times, making reservations if space is limited for activities, and so on. Happy travels!
